Why You Should Get Married At San Francisco City Hall

A bride holds up her bouquet with delight as she and her husband hold hands and walk down the aisle after their ceremony at San Francisco City Hall.

There's nothing in the world like getting married at City Hall.

It's one of those things that you don't realize is special until it happens to you, and suddenly it's the best thing ever.

And that was exactly how I felt when they got married at San Francisco City Hall.

First of all, the building itself is absolutely stunning. Its beaux-arts style makes for a beautiful backdrop no matter where you stand. Most civil ceremonies take place at the top of the grand staircase, under the rotunda, and private ceremonies can choose between several balconies. I recommend the Mayor's balcony or the 4th Floor on the Northern side! And for anyone wanting a little privacy or worried about crowds (it is a public building, after all), I'd recommend booking an early appointment mid-week.

Secondly, you can't beat the price! For only $95 you can have a gorgeous wedding venue in the heart of San Francisco. The money saved can go towards a fabulous reception, honeymoon, etc...

My hands-down favorite thing about weddings at Sf City Hall is the buzz of happiness in the air. Not only are the couples and their loved ones beaming with excitement, but the deputy marriage commissioners are quite possibly some of the loveliest people you will ever meet and are committed to making your day as special as possible.

I know, it's a little weird for me to say that my favorite part of a wedding is how happy everyone is—but it's true! I feel like I'm surrounded by love when I'm there. It's infectious!
