What should you wear for your maternity photos?

As a maternity photographer, I know that your outfit can make or break the photos…no pressure! ;) Seriously, it’s not that hard, and I’m here to help. I want you to look and feel your best, so I’m sharing my top tips and ideas for what to wear for your maternity pictures. Whether you want to glam it up or keep things casual, we’ll find the right outfit to make you feel confident and beautiful in front of the camera. So let’s dive in and explore some maternity photoshoot outfit ideas that celebrates this incredible time!

The first thing you should do is consider the location and the colors around you.

To help narrow down your options, think about what you'd like to use these photographs for...wall art, baby shower invitations, or a baby announcement. This will help determine your ideal location. If your shoot will be in a park, try to find something that will look great against green grass or trees. If you're going to be at a beach, go for color that'll pop against the sand and water. For maternity photos at home, keep things casual and comfortable that go with your home decor. For maternity photos in the city, choose an outfit similar to something you would wear on a fun date night. Overall, the style and colors you choose should match your surroundings as well as feel right for you!

The next thing you want to think about is showing off your bump!

That's the point of a maternity shoot, after all! ;) Now, I realize you may feel like everything looks big on you or just plain weird. If you're not sure what looks good on you, take some pictures wearing different outfits at home and ask your partner or a friend for their opinion. You're welcome to send me photos, too. Don't worry, I know that there are many great options out there that will make sure your bump gets the attention it deserves. Think about wearing dresses or tops that highlight the belly and avoid anything too oversized, as it will be shapeless and we'll miss the baby!

If your husband, partner, or other children will be joining you, here are some tips for what they should wear:

Have them wear colors that complement yours and avoid matching or colors that clash. An easy rule is to keep their outfits simple with mostly neutral colors, like navy, khaki, and dark green. Remember that you’re the star of the show, so be sure to choose your outfit first!

Finally, remember: It's all about feeling good in what you're wearing! Make sure everything fits well and is in top shape.

You're going to be doing a lot of moving around and posing, so it's important that you feel your best! Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles. If you have a vision, let me know and we’ll make it happen! I hope these tips and ideas have inspired you, and I can’t wait to capture stunning maternity photos with you!
