SAN FRANCISCO NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER

Your baby is perfect.

This is why I don’t do any posing or use any props for your baby’s photo session. I’ll capture moments of you holding, feeding, and loving your baby. It’s as simple as that.

And by the way, if you need time to recover after giving birth, it’s totally OK to have your baby’s first photo session when they’re a little older. View my newborn photo gallery below and be sure to check out the FAQs at the end.

Lifestyle Newborn Portraits FAQs

How old should my baby be for newborn photos?

It really depends on what you want to capture (and if mom feels ready!). Typically newborn photos are taken within the first two weeks of your baby’s life and up to about 3 months old.

Since my photography is more lifestyle & natural, some moms prefer for the baby to be a bit older, which allows me to capture more connection and the baby's personality.

Other parents want to have the session when their baby is the tiniest they will ever be, so we’ll schedule the newborn portraits within their baby’s first two weeks of life.

When should I book my newborn photo session?

The sooner the better. Usually, 3 months in advance is enough time, but if you know will only be available during weekends, you should try to book sooner. Once you’ve decided how old you would like your baby to be for their newborn photos, then we can choose a date for the photo session.

What happens if I give birth early or late, or if I need more time to recover from giving birth?

We’ll have an official date scheduled, but we can reschedule it if that needs to change. Once you’ve given birth, you’ll reach out to me and let me know if you’d like to keep your original date or if you’d like to book a different one. I’m happy to stay flexible and I always try to keep an extra day open for make-up dates.

How long will the newborn session take?

I tell my clients to block off three hours of the day. Typically, we’re not photographing for three hours, but we’ll leave room just in case the baby needs more feeding time and breaks.

What should the baby wear? What should the parents wear?

  • Solid colors or simple patterns are recommended, and soft or mid-tone colors are best.

  • For moms - Some ideas that work well: long flowy dresses, a pretty robe, tunics, or cozy knit sweaters with jeans or leggings.

  • For guys - keep it simple and casual with jeans and a solid or small patterned shirt. Button-down shirts with rolled sleeves, cotton t-shirts/v-necks, or sweaters work well.

  • For the baby - a simple, *fitted onesie to start, and we can always photograph a second outfit if you'd like. *If your baby is between sizes, size down.

Where do the newborn sessions take place?

All sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, typically in the middle of the day for the best use of natural light.

Do you have experience photographing in small apartments?

You may be concerned about your apartment space or lack of lighting, but I have years of experience photographing babies in San Francisco homes of all sizes. The focus of the session is on the baby, not your home. All I need is a window or two, and we’re good to go! See the examples above.

Do you offer a maternity and newborn bundle package, or a package for the baby’s first year?

Yes! When you book your maternity and newborn sessions together, you will receive a discount off of the Session Fee. If you would like to later on add another photo session to document your baby’s first year, I have a special plan as well. Contact me for more details!
